Classes

Ballet San Antonio Academy maintains an open enrollment policy.  Students may begin classes at any time during the year.  Students will be evaluated to determine proper placement and when a student is ready to move to a higher level, it will be recommended by the instructor.

Creative Movement (3-4) & (4-5): Class for 3 to 5 year olds, regardless of previous training, to inspire young dancers to love dance and music.  This class introduces the basic principles of classical ballet and movement by working on developing motor skills, coordination, musicality, creativity, and spontaneity. 

Pre- Ballet: This class is for 6 and 7 year olds (7 year olds may be considered for Ballet I). This teaches the basic principles of classical ballet, similar to creative movement, but at this level, body placement awareness and proper terminology are emphasized. To love dance and music is the main objective.

Ballet I: Beginner ballet class is for 8 to 12 year olds and teaches all the basic principles of classical ballet. Proper body placement, turnout, and terminology are emphasized.  Children stay at this level for an average of 2 years. Students in this class must come twice a week.
Ballet II: Advanced beginner ballet class for 9 to 14 year olds. This class is for students that have sucessfully completed Ballet I.  Students in the class must come twice a week.
Teen/Adult Ballet I: This is a beginning level class is designed for teenagers and adults with little or no experience at all. 

Teen/Adult Intermediate Ballet: This is an intermediate level ballet class designed for teenagers and adults.

Ballet III: This class is for students 9 years of age and older that have mastered the basic principles of Ballet I and II.  Students in this class must come at least 3 times a week. Proper body placement is required for this level.

Pre-Pointe: This class is designed for strengthening and conditioning of the feet and ankles in preparation for pointe work.  Students enrolled in this class must be at a ballet level III or higher.

Ballet IV: Intermediate class for students that are studying no less than 3 times per week.

Pointe I-II: Beginner’s Pointe class designed for students that have attained the correct posture and strength to begin pointe work. Students must be at least 10 years of age and must technically qualify to take this class (By recommendation of teacher only). Students stay at this level for approximately 2 years.

Ballet V: Intermediate/advanced level for experienced dancers only that are studying no less than 4 times per week. (By teacher recommendation only).
Center work and sometimes the whole class is done on pointe.

Pointe III: This class is for students who have sucessfully mastered the basic principles of Pointe I-II.  Variations will be introduced at this level.  Students enrolled in this class must be at a ballet level V or higher.
Ballet VI: Advanced level class. Center work is done on pointe. (By teacher recommendation only).

Intro to Dance Ballet/Jazz (5-7): This class introduces the beginner level ballet and jazz discipline, working on developing fine motor skills, coordination, musicality and creativity. A priority of this class is to inspire the young dancer to love and appreciate dance.

Jazz Beg (6-8): This is a beginner level jazz class designed to develop technique, strength and introduce style.
(2 years prior dance experience required.)

Jazz I: This is a beginning intermediate level jazz class designed to continue in the development of technique, strength and style.

Jazz II: This is an intermediate level jazz designed to continue to develop technique, strength and style (will include funk and lyrical).  Students in this level are required to take ballet.

Jazz III: This is an int/adv level jazz class designed to focus on technique, strength, style, creativity and preparation for career. (will include funk, lyrical and some modern.).  Students in this class are required to take ballet.

Jazz IV: This is an advanced level jazz class designed to exemplify technique, strength, style, creativity and preparation for a career in dance (will include funk, lyrical and some modern).  This class must attend ballet class no less than twice a week. (By teacher recommendation only).

Teen/Adult Jazz: This is a beginner level Jazz class designed for teenagers and adults.

Hip Hop Beg: This is an introduction to hip-hop- a free style movement based on popping, locking and clean commercial style steps.

Hip Hop I: This is an intermediate level hip hop –a free style movement based on popping, locking and clean commercial style choreography.

Hip Hop II: This is an advanced level of hip hop- a free style movement based on popping, locking, and clean commercial style choreography.

Modern I: This is an introduction focusing on technique, strength, floor-work, choreography and learning how to be off-center. Ballet is required for enrollment in Modern.  Students in this class must at least be at a ballet level II or higher.

Modern II: This is an intermediate level modern class that will exemplify technique, strength, floor-work, choreography and the modern discipline. Ballet is required for enrollment in Modern.  Students in this class must at least be at a ballet level III or higher.

Stretch and Conditioning: This class uses Pilates style exercises for strength and flexability throughout the body.  Students in this class must at least be at a ballet level III or higher.
